Easy Stuffed French Toast Recipe – Filled with Passionfruit & Cream Cheese

Easy Stuffed French Toast filled with cream cheese and passion fruit curd stack and covered in chocolate syrup strawberries and whipped cream

I find this easy stuffed french toast recipe to be more satisfying than the popular strawberries and cream cheese stuffed French toast. The passion-fruit curd adds an exotic and surprising flavor that balances the sweetness. If you’re paying attention when you eat, and not gobbling up your food (like me), you’ll realize that the best tasting meal will satisfy ALL your taste buds, and this French toast recipe does that perfectly! Let’s get into it.

What Can You Stuff French Toast With?

Strawberries & Cream Cheese: The Most Popular Filling for French Toast

The most popular stuffed french toast I’ve found on the net is by far, strawberries and cream cheese, but you can stuff french toast with just about anything! There’s no rule that restricts you to a sweet filling, or a cream cheese based filling. You can do a savory filling like a bacon & basil jam or corned beef.

Strawberry vs Passion Fruit Filling

Strawberries tend to be more mild in flavor than passion-fruit. That can make the french toast monotonous. This passion fruit and cream cheese filling does something amazing – like hearing a beautiful choir with awesome harmonious sounds:-

  • the balance of the tart but fruity flavours of passion fruit
  • with the sweet drizzled chocolate
  • and the crispy fried bread

I dunno about you but for me, it’s more satisfying than my favorite songs. Orgasmic maybe? (I geek out on food okay, please understand)

The cream cheese is a perfect conduit for the passionfruit curd and gives a nice surprise and cuts through the monotony. I still incorporated strawberries into this dish, but used it as a garnish.

How to Make Stuffed French Toast

Choose the Right Type of Bread

It is very important that you buy a whole loaf bread when making this recipe. We in Jamaica have what’s called, HARDOUGH bread. It is a white bread and is more firm than sliced breads, like wonder and holds it’s shape and the filling very well. It also absorbs the egg just enough to not get soggy, resulting in a crispy exterior when fried.

I strongly recommend you use a similar type of bread, and especially that you buy the whole, unsliced loaf. The right type of bread is very important because you need to be able to cut the bread thicker than regular slices, so that you can stuff your french toast.

I am the first to admit, white bread is not the healthiest choice, but in this case, nothing else will suffice. Anyway, dessert is not meant to be healthy if you ask me.

How to Fill the Middle of the Bread

The key is that you need to be able to get it into the center of the bread. To fill my french toast with the passion fruit and cream cheese mix, I used a piping bag which you can buy from your local store or via Amazon. Feel free to experiment with your filling.
